Next we move onto the service phase where I am now in a holding pattern I needed to get a repair breakdown and service estimate from the technician but he wouldn t give me one as he had no idea what was wrong with the t v No picture No sound Huh Only turn on/off Now I am waiting to talk to his manager to get some document I can fax back to Sony along with all the receipts in order for them to approve repair service

So 1400 for 14 months of Sony TV use amounts to 100 a month rental fee and Mother Earth and the trash dump takes one on the chin for another disposable piece of electronic wizardry

4 S Air is a joke too First of all Let me confess that I do not believe in wireless audio connector for fidelity and interference But still thought can make a use of it in the bathroom but it the signal is far from steady even when separated by a thin 1 cm wooden wall The walls in my apartment are cheap but still it does not work and yes it will not give you loud sound just may be a total of 10W and why somebody will use it in the same room as the Home theater might be a stupid question
5 False information about Wireless technology This system is NOT supposed to have wireless rear speakers Rear speakers need to be wired Its called wireless because it comes with the SA unit which is not more than a over hyped FM Radio set or if you know not even that as it needs to communicate with the central unit for radio too

The TV and the receiver interface pretty well out of the box they can talk to each other if connected via HDMI and optical out from the TV to the receiver and the changing inputs on the TV will make appropriate changes to the audio output selected There is an option to tell the Sony TV remote which AV/Receiver you are using so that it can do double duty So now I can turn both the TV and the reciever on/off with one button choose a video input and the audio is switched automatically etc The Sony feature is called something like HDMI Sync
The sound of the unit is much better than I expected It s not going to make an audiophile give up their high end systems and can t match the setup in my main room but it is going to be more than adequate for most listeners and for folks looking for a compact system It has enough power to fill a big room nicely with a big sound and the subwoofer is powerful enough to rattle your walls and windows
It comes with a nice feature a microphone you attach to the receiver and then set in the middle of the room The receiver then automatically tunes the speaker levels to the appropriate level I haven t done that yet have to get the rear surrounds hung but if it works OK it will be a nice feature
The iPod dock included only supports audio a big disappointment Why they stopped at audio is hard to understand iPod video is at least as important now as audio playback Oh well
The included wireless speaker seems like a solution in search of a problem we don t have Allows listening to the audio playing on the receiver in different rooms or outside We re really not sure if we ll use it or not we have radios pretty much anywhere we want to listen to the radio and don t see any need to hear the TV from another room where I can t see the TV
This is an all plastic speaker set you won t find any fabric or wood here but they still look nice and don t feel cheap
Overall I d say this is a good system with a nice sound Paired w/a Sony Bravia TV it makes a nice easy to use combination

Note that the previous 32 Sony LCD is still stable and was manufactured in Japan I wish they have the same quality control for this one
November 13 update So after having the extended warranty approved by Amex two weeks later the service guy came in with the sealed box of the power supply part that was shipped from Sony San Diego The box didn t show any sign of stress and the part was wrapped in bubbles The repairman inspected the part first and guess what the power supply board was cracked That tells a lot about Sony s quality control Now I have to wait another week for them to get a replacement from Sony Cross my fingers Never buying another Sony product >> Fantastic picture once I got rid of the clouding effect I ve had this TV for about a week now and though it was a rollercoaster of emotions at first I ve grown to really like it and would recommend it my only reservation the possibility of backlight clouding
First of all the very first thing I noticed after setting it up was a large but dim purple splotch directly in the center of the screen My heart immediately sank as this was the dreaded Bravia clouding or mura effect I d read so much about In other words the backlighting is not completely consistent at all places of the screen and it showed anywhere from black to very dark purple in dark scenes This is a common problem that a large percentage of the Bravia and XBR Lcds have problems with Do a google search on Bravia clouding for more information
To be fair it was barely noticeable while watching a normal lit TV of movie scene and my girlfriend was completely oblivious to it But in the black screen pause between channels dark scenes and movie credits this purple blob stood out to me like a 14 Lucky Charms marshmallow taunting me for throwing away my hard earned cash
From what I found online Sony won t officially recognize this as a defect and exchanging it for another would have been expensive for shipping I decided to try and fix it and it worked And while it worked for me it probably won t work for everyone and you could potentially ruin your TV Be very careful The thin plastic screens are fragile and you could scratch or permanently discolor it I took a very clean and soft microfiber cloth and with the TV on a dark paused screen began to very lightly massage the discolored area in circular motions just enough to make a discolored spot where I touched it Within 30 seconds I managed to move the spot near the bottom Eventually I was able to keep moving it towards the lower edge until the spot disappeared entirely And after two days it hasn t come back
Even if it doesn t work the picture settings you choose can help lessen this effect as well especially if you lower your backlight and enable the power saver mode The initial picture settings out of the box are just terrible with a harsh blue tint and far too much contrast and picture I would recommend something closer to this for normal viewing Mode Std Backlight 4 picture 75 bright 50 color 50 hue R1 temp warm2 sharpness 10 noise/mpeg low and turn off all advanced settings Search google for more recommendations or just play around with it some until you find what works best for your use
Once the picture was adjusted the picture was beautiful even better than my new 50 Panasonic Viera plasma Blacks are deep black whites are bright and clear and HD content especially shines Standard definition content looks ok but the issues there are probably more the signal quality coming in than the TV I personally do not notice much of a difference between 60 and 120hz So I wouldn t let that scare you off Also the sound is better than I was expecting Certainly good enough for day to day TV watching
I guess my only reservations besides the fixed clouding are the remote isn t my favorite At this price I would have liked a better feel and light up buttons Also the menu system is like a Sony PSP not very user friendly to me But those are nitpicking This is a considered a budget model for Sony but for the price you get quite high picture and sound quality making this a very impressive value And the bezel looks much nicer than any of the competing models I d considered

Everything that came with the TV was still intact except for the box Hook up wasnt that hard This TV is just plain amazing Everything was extremely sharp If you have digital service with your cable provider you will see a very sharp image on your TV although its only a 720p
The location of the connection ports is placed just exactly where I need them The controls were very user friendly not a lot of pacing to do when you get to the menu everything was simple Colors are sharp and solid no washing outs here The speaker output is quite loud and no distortion This is one of the features that drew me to Sony We have another HDTV at home which is a Sharp AQUOS and the sound output doesnt even compare with Sony There are times when you just need the TV plainly without using the theater systems and the Sony delivers with just its own sound
Although an open box item Circuit City still offered the same return policy and manufacturer warranty So I basically didnt lose anything except for a steep discount from its brand new price One of the best purchases I made in my lifetime

Sony Bravia M Series KDL 32M4000 32 Inch 720p LCD HDTV >> Quite Expensive TV I have two 32in TV One from Samsung which I bought for 350 as a used product it s 2 year old product I also got Sony for 480 brand New I was expecting some difference from Sony vs Samsung not because of the Brand but because of the relatively newer technology from Sony After having played with picture setting I still liked Samsung better Also for some reason Samsung screen feels bigger as well I m not saying Sony has bad picture but if you can get a decent price for older LCD you are not going to find much difference as long as you are getting one from one of these name brands I use the TV for signals from PS3 and Cable as well as signals off the air >> Not perfect but I couldn t give 4 5 stars Bought this primarily for watching HD movies and playing HD games via Xbox 360 I knew that there would be a bit of lag with it but I had judged it to be negligible from my experiences with an LG 32 I had Wasn t a good judging stick The LG blows away the Bravia in this sense in all others though the Bravia comes out on top Great picture good color depth nice and bright when I need it and HD movies come out crisp and clear However the dark side to LCD technology is the lag that shows up when playing fast moving games The good news is that for a 32 LCD it s actually not too bad Right around 42ms That can have serious consequences in an FPS style game but once you get used to it the lag basically disappears from your brain Overall a great tv well worth what I paid for it >> Obscenely Incredible It s a scandal I purchased this TV to use as a monitor What an obscenely beautiful monitor it is The images are almost 3D and crystal clear My Samsung 22 monitor does not measure up Streaming TV shows from HULU Joost are incredible With this gorgeous monitor I don t have to adjust the zoom text sizes no matter what I cannot find any negative feature on this Now I am thinking of buying a game console very soon

The only dilemma I had was user error at first I had some older DVD players which would not function on the Composite input to the TV I finally had Sony service come out to show me that my older players even though they had composite output were not compatible with this television duh But I had one newer player than worked just fine Service could have charged me 100 for the visit but they didn t the technician was patient with my ignorance
So I would rate my local service provider for Sony very highly Quite a shocker

Sony Bravia Z Series KDL 40Z4100/S 40 Inch 1080p 120Hz LCD HDTV Silver >> Expected more from Sony I m gonna tell it to you like it is folks I recently purchased a refurbished KDL 40Z4100/B direct from Sony Style However what Sony sold me was a used not a refurbished TV Although there was nothing functionally wrong with the TV I received it was obvious that it had been used for some time There were chips tape marks scuffs and scratches all along the bezel and the screen looked as if someone tried to clean it with a dirty sponge Manufacturer date on it was 5/2008 so my guess is it was an in store demo which would explain why aesthetically it looked so rough A call to Sony customer service to negotiate a 200 credit was futile The supervisor on duty Dave said the best he could do was a 100 credit which was more of a Hey you re wasting my time Here s a hundred dollars Now go away gesture I spent an entire afternoon trying to reason with Dave Sony but he held the line and said that he was bound by policy When I asked for his supervisor he said he could give me an email address to lodge a complaint In the end I took the 100 credit got a refund for the 2 year extended warranty I purchased and applied the total refund to a 5 year extended warranty because my main concern is the back light Needless to say I expected more from Sony and at 800 for a used TV and it was used this was a fair deal at best Integrity is a rare find in retail these days and Sony is no exception Hope your experience is better >> No Sparkles The one star reviews complain about sparkles I ve had this TV for almost a year and the only time I ve noticed sparkles is sitting about 6 inches from it
The USB function isn t great it only works with Cruzer brand USB drives I couldn t get the USB input in the TV to work with card readers iPods ect Not really a problem for me since there s so many ways to get networked music into this TV

I like this tv a lot The picture quality is amazing when connected to my playstation 3 It still surprises me after a year of having it since its almost like looking through a window into the games or movies Games such as Bioshock Dead Space Dirt and movies such as Wall e and the Watchmen look incredible Regular NTSC channels look like crap since the tv enhances the detail so much you have to make some adjustments to tone it down You go to the sharpness and noise settings and adjust them They won t adjust themselves I put the sharpness to the lowest and noise setting to its highest and NTSC channels look fine
It has 3 preset adjustable picture settings vivid custom and standard
The speakers deliver crisp sound but obviously they don t have a bass punch You will need to connect a separate set of speakers for powerful bass but the tv s are powerful enough for a room and they volume is loud at 30 where I usually have it It goes up to a 100 but I ve never used it once don t need to
It has an optical out connection that you can connect to a theater sound system for crisp digital signal I don t know what the big deal with the black colors is if they wash out or not They re just black and if you want blacker just adjust the brightness and the backlight settings simple I did notice that the backlight leaks a little at the higher right corner when the screen is black but is not a huge problem You can adjust it
I do have a problem with not being able to discard all the analog channels and just keep the digital ones You can t discard any channel for that matter and they re all programmed together The favorist list is pretty bad too You can favorite 10 channels but you can t organize them or delete the ones you already added You just sort of push them off the bottom of the list with a new channel which is pretty time consuming and stupid
It has 2 HDMI inputs and about 3 analog video inputs 1 pc input which I haven t used
This TV doesn t have many features aside from adjusting the colors But again its a Sony and the picture quality is great If people want many secondary features they probable should pay double the price and get the more expensive Sony I have yet to have a sony product break on me and this tv will probably last several years hopefuly

Sony Bravia XBR KDL 46XBR6 46 Inch 1080p 120Hz LCD HDTV >> Better than anything you have now Don t waste your life worrying about which LCD is better than the others Get either a Samsung or a Sony and you won t be disappointed Once you get it in your house it will look a thousand times better than your prior TV so just pull the trigger and be done with it The High Def channels are amazing but it does have some issues with black on black make some adjustments until you see what you like >> Sony Bravia XBR KDL 46XBR6 tv I purchased this tv because of its beautiful color and sharp images However within a few months the LCD panel went leaving me with no picture except for broad bands of solid vertical colors We brought it to a Platinum Sony authorized repair shop and a new panel was inserted The tv was returned to us in 4 weeks Now the exact part the LCD panel has to be replaced again for the very same problem only this time it is no longer in warranty The repair cost to replace the panel for the second time is quoted at 1 995 for the actual part and then 395 added on for labor To get our tv back the repair costs will be greater than the the total price of what we paid for the actual brand new tv Sony headquarters will not assist in the cost of the new replacement LCD panel even though the tv panel needs replacement for the second time We not only still owe 1200 on our credit card for the original purchase we will now have to pay 2 395 to repair it while still paying on the original purchase bill Shame on Sony for not honoring a warranty on the replaced part Buyers beware It is indeed a beautiful tv but should it break such as the main LCD panel watch out The tv repair will cost more than the actual tv >> Incredible picture I had originally planned to get a Panasonic plasma 50 inch I had 3 sony s before and all had great pictures and i didn t want risk getting less quality In came the46 XBR I bought it as a floor model and saved a ton of money I hooked it up in 10 minutes The picture at first was great but it was very dim I called sony the next day and they said to turn off the light sensor POW The picture went from great to incredible It was bright sharp and 3D like Cable is terific and Blue Ray s are stunning I put in I Robot and the images looked like I was on the movie set watching it get filmed The sound is great and sounds like you are in the threatre

Sony DMXWL1 BRAVIA Wireless HD Link >> Works great I got this unit from another site where they have the 40 XBR for 999 and this comes free with it Setup was easy and worked flawlessly Have the receiver hooked up to a Sony TV Sony website lists compatible TVs that will work with this receiver looks like all their TVs are on the list one nice thing about the receiver is that it has HDMI control so when you turn off the TV the receiver is turned off too
Picture quality is great and there is no detectable delay with the signal going through the wireless transmission I have the transmitter hooked up via component cable from satellite box and an HDMI connected TV from the same satellite box and the two TVs appear to be in sync
When the unit first powers on there is a 3 5 second delay before you would see any picture on the wireless connected TV The distance between my transmitter and receiver is about 50 feet with no line of sight and both picture and sound are perfect with no interference from cordless phones I have DECT 5 8GHz wireless lan mine is running at 2 4GHz or microwave
Highly recommended if you have a Sony TV >> Did Not Work On My Awesome 42 and 47 Samsungs I really had high hopes for this product Unfortunately they cannot transmit uncompressed audio to my beautiful Samsungs best in the industry So i purchased a generic whdmi transmitter and low and behold WORKS But not the sony brand Sony you need to get with the times and forget about making them bravia compatible ONLY Lol
PS Unfortunately i purchased through amazon via an affiliate so i cannot return the product However i CAN sell it so i will >> Works Great When It Works This product works great when it works The problem is since this is on the bleeding edge of technology it has a number of glitches The largest problem you are going to run into has nothing to do with signal interference but rather signal compatibility I hooked up an Xbox360 Cable Box PS3 and DVD player/sound system and sent the video signal to my projector and used the Toslink out for the sound which went to my DVD player/sound system For the Xbox360 I could get video to get sent to my projector but the sound wouldn t transmit to my sound system For my PS3 which is made by the same company I could get sound just fine but no video The only thing that worked properly is playing a DVD but that was because the sound was localized to the system already otherwise I m sure I would have gotten video only out of it Bottom line for video games and tv there was no lag no contouring and no pixilation I ended up returning this product and opting for a hard wire run and just putting cable covers on to hide the cords My advice wait for the second generation of this product and if you are going to buy make sure there is a good return policy that s why I bought it on Amazon

Sony Bravia M Series KDL 37M4000 37 Inch 720p LCD HDTV >> Purchased from a friend I have always relied on the Sony name for the quality of their products I replaced my CRT television with this model from a friend who bought it when it came out for a guest bedroom and it did not get used much at all
I was baffled with the pixellation of the display quaility at first I do not have cable/satellite but the HD broadcast quaility is great even with regular bunny ears Some broadcast channels are still broadcasting in analogue quality display so there was a BIG difference with picture quality between those stations and HD ones I have read that a good quaility antenna can provide a better picture quality and more channel options a future upgrade soon
I use Roku to play Netflix and Pandora and the pixellation issue was the same until I change the box setting to HD and used an HDMI cable from the CRT standard and the graphics are very sharp I hope Netflix will start offering HD videos soon >> Excellent I bought this TV in October 2008 It was shipped to me in south Florida from California and out of the box the picture and sound were great I have Dish Network HD service and the receiver to the TV connection is HDMI I also have a VCR DVD combo unit connected using component cables I have the Sony 32S3000 which is now 20 months old and I calibrated it using AVIA II So I used those values for the 37M initially and after about six weeks of use I calibrated it using AVIA The value differences were very slight I have a feeling the negative reviews are based on initial impressions and maybe there is a bad connection or an incorrect connection The Sony manual is very informative Also set your receiver to the native resolution of the TV which is 720P I also have the sound set to PCM ONLY and the RF MODE on the Dish receiver This prevents the sound levels from fluctuating in two channel stereo I think this TV as well as my other Sony are fantastic I definitly recommend

Definitely a BUY In fact I might get one more for my parents house >> Amazing set for the money This is the sweet spot this year for Sony s 32 size Bravia engine 3 wireless connectivity for Bravia video streaming Netflix amazon etc w/ included wireless dongle All for sub 500 Some may not like that it is a 720p set but unless you are using it as a computer monitor you d NEVER notice the difference between that and 1080p
The menu system and options have been flushed out nicely to avoid shortcomings from the past few years The set can remove the overscan with the 1 Screen setting for both 1080i and 720p signals Previous sets only did 1080i A very nice feature
Don t pay much attention to the above reviewer they have some other problem I have this set hooked up to Time Warner Cable with absolutely no issues I have a whole house video system and it is hooked into a single TWC DVR box with no issues as well a single coaxial input dedicated to the bedroom where this set is It does a tremendous job of displaying decoded HD signals from the coaxial cable signal The Bravia engine three seems to do a much better job than the BE2 I do not believe the BE3 was available in ANY 32 last year even the 32XBR9
I was replacing a KDL26M4000 and this set is heads and shoulders above in every aspect You won t be disappointed

Only thing missing for me was number of HDMI inputs Had there been multiple inputs it would have been one of my best purchases Still for the price I bought about 300 it is quite impressive Since I cannot give a 4 5 out of 5 I chose a rating of 5 for this item

Sony BRAVIA W Series KDL 46W5100 46 Inch 1080p 120Hz LCD HDTV >> Sony Can Has Cheez Burger Ok so I take my time when buying big ticket items and I bought my 46W5100 from Amazon on a deal that matched the price point and feature targets I wanted Even as of today in April 2010 some six months after my original purchase the deal I got is still a good deal
First let me say that I love this Sony TV the KDL46W5100 its a keeper even though there are some things I don t like it does bring it where it counts
PROS Picture quality connectivity internet features they are all there The built in Netflix streaming widget is awesome and I almost use that more than DVD s anymore
Picture quality is something to behold especially when watching Blu Ray content spectacular Sony nailed it here Connectivity this unit has lots of HDMI jacks 100Mbit ethernet digital audio line out audio etc etc Sony nailed it here Internet Widgets Sony did a good job here but there are some disappointments the DLNA connectivity is weak more on this later
CONS Speaker Rattle DLNA connectivity and some of the user interface is annoying
Speaker rattle is caused by bass sounds in movies its probably common to all large HDTV s the solution Hook your TV to an external amp speakers The user interface makes it unnecessarily hard to toggle the TV speakers on or off no biggie but annoying >> Amazing TV I couldn t be happier with this TV I held out on buying a TV for a long time but I m glad I pulled the trigger when I did This thing looks beautiful both when it s turned on and when it s off The picture quality is great the built in speakers sound pretty darn good and can get nice and loud I have an XBOX 360 hooked up to it via HDMI and also an Over The Air antenna
I have to say the internet features built into the TV are a little weak I presume whatever CPU chip they have in there is pretty slow because navigating the internet features is sluggish Not an issue though if you have other internet devices hooked up to it that you use instead like an Xbox
Delivery went really smoothly I live in downtown Washington DC and the delivery guy parked his truck on my street and wheeled the TV down the sidewalk on a cart and then helped me carry it up three floors to my bedroom and helped me set it up on the stand Very nice
You won t regret picking up this TV >> Great TV This is a great TV I got this with a Blu Ray player for pretty cheap and it was definitely worth it the picture is so much better than my old TV The only thing I don t like about the TV is the inputs on the side there is only 1 HDMI on the back and 3 on the side I really think that should be opposite Other than that this TV is awesome
